XF?

I'm feeling generous at VF. There's not enough hair detail or vertical lines in the roman numerals for XF.

Prethen, does this get an XF grade from you because 1867 comes almost always with a weak strike and therefore for this particular 3CN it deserves an XF grade?

1sikevo what grade did you assign to this 3CN when you purchased it.

I could be wrong depending what it looks like in hand, but the cheek doesn't appear to have much wear and that leaf at 2 o'clock on the reverse is very strong. The rims are very strong as well. Again, depending on what it appears to be in person, it might even be XF45.

Keep in mind, the Mint had one of a time striking these guys. Those strike issues were common.

Now, value is a completely different question. Would I pay as much for that coin as a better struck example. Of course not. I would probably want to pay choice VF for a coin like that. Chances are, many dealers would agree with you Jim and charge me VF money. That's one way to make my day.

I did spend a good bit of time looking at the wreath and the rims as they did look XF all the way.

These 3CN's are very interesting coins and I am learning a well struck 3CN is worthy of a premium.

Thanks for the explanation.

I like the die cracks!!
