Error-1881-3-Cent-Nickel?

I came across this coin today. It looks like the reverse design was struck on the obverse before the obverse design was struck. Is this a known error for this coin?

Die clash are fairly common on the Three Cent Nickel, as are die chips and die cracks. Unless those die problems are severe it will not add value to the coin as an error.

I'd say this passes for an extreme die clash, it's not often the design from one side intrudes into the other side so deep in the actual details of the coin's relief, mostly seen in the fields only. I like it!

This was listed on ebay as an 1881 81/81 overdate. It's clearly a die clash.

It cost me a pretty penny, but it's worth it.

swcoin, be sure to look closely at the date especially the '8's. There are approximatly 14 known varieties of repunched dates as seen with mikepellerin's post.
