I came across a pair of bogus Tibet Taels with identical markings but yet they are two different sizes:
Smaller is 2.2 by 38mm and the larger is 3.5 by 43mm. So whomever cooked these up they were really off base with at least one or probably both of them.

So smaller in size, that they should be really called 'copies', not 'fakes'.

These fakes are much more dangerous to a novice if he hasn't got a genuine example next to it, with which to compare.

Fakers very often rely on this lack of comparison at the point of sale.

I agree there are so many times when you see these pop up with the questions about them. There are places in China cranking these things out like hot cakes. Most seem to have that dull dirty gray look to them as well as being well under weight. What struck me about this pair is that they are seemingly identical denominations and designs but it's obvious the larger of the two is just so wrong. Easy to understand them ending up in the hands of buyers, and then some of us in turn replying to their inquiries.

These if genuine are quite scarce to rare and do not often appear on the market for sale.

Best thing with Chinese numismatics is that if you don't know what you are getting, don't bother spending a single cent!
