I recently Purchased this 1893 CC. Either its Fake or the seller had no clue what it was. Please help me to figure out if its real or not. These are the original photos. I haven't received the coin yet.

I hope the seller accepts returns because the date position on this is wrong and therefore it's a counterfeit.

I am going to predict that you will find that the coin is a fake, perhaps based on weight. If you got it at significantly less than market price, then the odds are that the seller DID know what they had. Based on the above photo, the CC looks "off". It might just be the photo, but it appears some of the denticles blend in with the rim, and some do not. One of the things I look for, but there is some disagreement about this, is the bottoms of the letters of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA should be flat. This coin exhibits a characteristic I find on many fake Morgan dollars, where the bottoms of these letters are not flat. In this photo, the T and E of STATES and F of OF are the most obvious. It is sometimes very difficult to judge the authenticity of a coin just from photos. These photos are not sharply focused, and the leads to the inability to judge further. I do not consider myself an expert on Morgan dollars, so hopefully you will get additional opinions. I hope I am mistaken, and you have purchased a great coin at a great price.

The "CC" is way off from an original. Coin looks counterfeit to me.

VAMworld lists 4 obverse dies for 1893 CC and none are this exact date position. edit to add - the date position is not even close. This would almost be considered a near date position and the closet authentic date position is far right of normal position. That right there is conclusive and the fact that other features do not look right using blurry photos is moot. There is no need to look further.

Looks fake to me also look at the inconsistent wear, those fields are mighty clean.....hmmmm....looks like a Chinese fake, plus a dullest grey color

No, Its not an ebay Coin. I Purchased from an Antiques dealer. The weight was 26.7 Grams shown on a scale. Once I receive it ill post clear photos. I only paid the normal rate for common Morgans. Plus I can return it if I need to. Thanks Guys

Bifurcated letters are a function of the striking and should not be depended on for Counterfeit Detection.

Thanks Guys. I'm so glad I joined this community. I would probably have a chest full of worthless coins otherwise.

I just confronted the seller and he/she admitted to knowing the coin was Counterfeit. What should I do? Report it or send it back so he/she can sell it to someone else who thinks its real.?

Get your money back and have the coin destroyed or thrown away, that is what I would do...or hold onto it to educate others about fakes. Education and knowledge are assets in this hobby.
