Connor, very good response. And thanks for the compliments on my collection--I do work at finding bargains.

Connor - well said. Personally, I tend not to buy raw notes valued at more than a few hundred dollars unless the quality just hits you in the face, which it does once in awhile - for example, I bought a raw $100 1966 USN recently for $270 and got it back from PMG in a 66EPQ holder after an express submission, but this kind of thing does not happen every day.
Grading raw paper money is much more difficult than grading coins, which are difficult enough to grade as it is. With coins, you have potential luster breaks to judge, and you can always re-submit if you like. It's not like that with paper money. I am a decent raw grader, but not good enough to really stick my thumb in the pie.

Just picked up another note for my 1914 $20 FRN district set (Philadelphia). This thing just jumps out of the holder.

Sorry, my prior post probably belongs in the "Post Your New Currency Acquisitions!" forum.

I agree with most, if not all of the information included in this thread.....great job guys. Most of my collection 75-80% is raw, with the remainder being in TPG holders. Primarily PMG,PCGS,CGA, and most recently Superior. Superior is, in my opinion, a great alternative if you want authentication, protection, and accurate grading. Greg Davis and his staff do a great job. Sample holder of one of my Superior graded notes;

Steve - point well taken and a super note, bet without checking that it's a tough bank. Njcoinman - if I have not already done so - to the CCF, and especially the Paper Money Forum.

Steve - is superior still in biz? I've tried emailing the a few times over the past week and not gotten a response. I'd like to try them out for some stuff that I basically just wanted preserved and authenticated.

I've submitted to both PMG and PCGS-C, the one thing I will note about PCGS-C is that they actually have very few graders dedicated to world currency, so if your submitting world notes on a level that does not have a stated turnaround time, I've found it can literally take months for your notes to get graded.
