I never thought I'd actually see one in person, but some guy in one of my classes showed me a 20 dollar bill that was taped up and had a few rips on it. I noticed it felt like ordinary paper and sure enough, it didn't have the security strip or watermark. I've never actually seen counterfeit money in person until now, and I told the guy that if he's gonna use it, be careful since he'll get in trouble if it's caught. What would you do here, and have any of you ever seen counterfeit money in person? Edited by Coincollector110 02/17/2016 12:43 pm

Technically it should be reported to the Secret Service or turned into a bank where they can do that. The risk is being out $20, which doesn't quite seem fair if the note came into your acquaintance's hands in a legal manner.
I have a hard time believing that an ATM would issue a counterfeit note so either that person was paid for a service with a bad $20 or received it in change by breaking a $50 or $100 note. I'm sure there are other possibilities but those are the two that spring to mind.

Well the guy didn't seem too concerned when I told him it was fake because apparently, he sold drugs on the street to someone and that "customer" shorted him 20 bucks which he didn't notice at the time.

Stay out of it and stay away from him. (I'm saying that in my grandma voice.) It would be a whole different situation if you knew (not suspected) who was manufacturing these notes. You don't. So for now it's best to stay out of it. (I'm going to worry about you now....- not really, you're smart enough to care of yourself.)

At the bank we have to confiscate them and mail them to the Secret Service. Customer gets shorted that amount. I know for a fact that the ATM will not accept them as ATMs have security programs...and that I had to get a counterfeit from a customer who said the ATM wouldn't accept it.

I've seen a 1988 $100 fake at the bank and I've had a 1865 $5 NBN that was counterfeited.

I think you should be more concerned with this jerk selling drugs than if the money he is paid for these drugs is "kosher" This person is a Maggot

Report anonymously. If the Police want your name, make sure that it is protected. I hate drugs, counterfeit bills and corrupt police.
If this happened in Mexico, I would just keep quiet. I love my life and those close to me.
