I'll start. Let's put all our suspect coins under this one thread so that the forum isn't inundated with threads showing ebay's fake coin offerings. http://www.ebay.com/itm/35165373821...bbc25b7&cp=1Seller: greatsoutherncoin Wrong font style. Tooling marks can be seen around the field near the mint mark (necessary for the mm to 'stick') and the base is curved. The base of the mm should be relatively flat, as if the mm could be lifted off the coin and placed upright on a flat surface. Genuine 1914-d Mint Marks: I sent the seller a message on this coin: Greatsoutherncoin, are you certain this coin is authentic? The mint mark looks wrong. The seller has communicated to me on this coin: Hello xxxxxxxx,
Thanks for your inquiry. I have checked this coin with the owner to make sure it is authentic and we both agree it is. Mint marks were still placed by hand on these dies, so this one does appear out of place, but there is no evidence the coin was added artificially after being struck.
If you have any other questions, or if you need anything, please don't hesitate to let me know. We greatly appreciate your business and communication.
Have a great day,

There's already a forum to post counterfeit coins in.
EDIT: Nevermind. Looks like it disappeared.

If this topic becomes popular, it is going to get a bit cluttered with discussions of different fakes. I don't think this forum has a 'reply to' function, so it may get a bit confusing.

It will at least keep the thread in one place, rather than scattering fakes hither and YAWN.
No, yawn wasn't an auto spell correct.
At one point I think Bobby was ready to say unkind things to some folks who seemed to think it was way cool to spend 16 hours a day reporting fakes, or supposed fakes.
I do hope this doesn't become a cluster, especially when nothing is actually done about the reports. Hopefully this will help educate rather than confuse.

Yeah, I'm only going to post unique stuff in the future. There's nothing gained pointing out to a few here that so-n-so is peddling a fake again. There's a pair of cleverly die struck 1955 DDO fake Lincoln Cents that I need to find and post here. They are very convincing. Shouldn't take too long. GSC will probably eventually sell them.

I heard back from the seller about the OP's posting of the 1914 D Wheat cent: Quote: Hello childofthewheat,
Thanks for your inquiry. I have received a few emails from buyers about this particular 1914-D, and although the owner saw it when he was buying it, I am going to have him re-evaluate the diagnostics to make sure we are selling an authentic coin.
If you have any other questions, or if you need anything, please don't hesitate to let me know. We greatly appreciate your business and communication.
Have a great day,
Bobby Great Southern Coins
