I am considering consigning a collection for sale and wondering if HA is better to use vs TCNC

It totally depends on what the collection includes. For high end foreign coins, I have used Heritage with good results. For Canadian coins, I would also consider CoinExpo and Moore. In addition to the auctioneer, I would also consider the venue. So if I were selling some very high end Canadian coins, I might want to look at the RCNA auction as a preferred venue. That all being said, while it is more difficult, with ebay costs at around 10% and any auction house taking a total spread of say 30%, I often find that ebay is the best answer.

It depends what I am selling.
Geoffrey Bell Auctions would be my first choice, for Canadian stuff.
Heritage Auctions, for my bigger errors and PCGS Registry Set material.

The only vote for TCNC from me would be the dealer/auctioneer to avoid.

Good question to ask any prospective auctioneer is what their respective fees are to sell the items.
As an aside, I hear CC&C will do another Canadian Legacy Sale, but unsure of when.

I would not recommend any auction firm unless you have superb absolute or condition rarities. Where do you think coin dealers go to buy a good percentage of their material for resale. Try selling at shows yourself or online . This way YOU control what you get for price. There are more than a few of us on the CCF forum , Canada and US who actually make a living full or part time selling on ebay. Or through our websites.

You've picked the worst time to sell since 1982.

@doubleeagle Your probably right about this being a bad time to sell. Ive been fishing for about a year now with enough info to write a book on who and what to avoid. LCS are off my radar and will never get a crumb from my plate. I know all about how they have to make a living etc, Ive been in business many years myself and its a waste of time to harp on me about that but I don't try and take advantage of my clients like some of the LCS Ive met with in my region, heck will freeze over before I would sell a dime to the ones I dealt with. Ill give ebay a try and see what happens on some of the stuff I want to sell.
