My question is about mid grade level War Nickels (lower than ms.) Is rainbow toning in mid lvl War Nickels something worth investing in? My local coin shop has 4 or 5 in the silver nickel box that look good and have nice rainbow colors. I can get them for cheap, because they aren't ms grade or double monticellos they don't get pulled for cases. Is there a market for mid lvl coins with beautiful rainbow toning? Or am I trying to outsmart the room lol

Thx!
Rest in Peace

A Couple of photos would be nice so we can tell what's going on . War Nickels don't usually have rainbow toneing .

Colorful toning on well-circulated coins is usually the result of retoning after a cleaning.

biokemist, I agree, a few were clearly cleaned. A few however, had nice petina with small portions starting to rainbow. I know pics will be easier for you to judge, thx for helping!

I'd love to see them. Rainbows would be nice if they are not an oven toning.

They are silver coins and silver tarnishes. So they can be pretty to some and ugly to other collectors.

But even the copper-nickel coins can also tone.

If you can get them cheap then no harm picking them up.

Colorful War Nickels (35% silver) that are circulated are probably artificially toned. If they are cheap then why not buy them? Just don't expect to flip them for big premiums based on the color.
