I saw this on ebay a few days ago and saved it to my watch list. I continued to browse for other 1913-D T2 buffalos for a day or so. However, I kept coming back to it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/12189516221...RK:MEBIDX:ITNow I am not a fan of listings that contain scanned images of coins. Scans tend to create artifacts that may or may not be there. But this coin clearly showed a full date, and the horn was really nice. I finally e-mailed the seller and asked if the date was indeed as full as the scan seemed to indicate. She replied back a couple of days later and said, "yes, the date is full. . . a little worn, but full". So I decided to pull the trigger since this was the BEST 1913-D T2 on ebay for the asking price. I think I did really well with this one. For once I took a chance, and it paid off. I'm very pleased to add it to my set. Only 2 more to go! Here are my pictures. Let me know what you think! The iPhone camera does not do as well with smaller coins. I just can't seem to get good, clear images of Buffalo nickels with my iPhone. Shooting at an angle produces much better results, as can be seem in the Dansco photo.

Looks much better than the scans would make you think, nice buy. All I have for my 13-D Ty 2 is an empty hole! Have you tried any of the free apps for the iphone to get better pictures on smaller coins? I use one called mag light, I don't use it with the light on but the magnifier is like adding a macro feature to the iphone's camera but you really have to keep things steady if you use the zoom feature or it can get out of focus on you..

Looks way better than the ebay scans in the Dansco. Took a gamble and it paid off.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm just glad I had the time to think about it before it was gone. Similar coins on the bay had asking prices of at least double the price. Maybe I'll this kind of luck with the 1913-S T2. Here's to hope!

I think it is at least in VF condition and I bet you got a bargain! I got 1913-S T2 in VF-25 for $425. It was slabbed and graded, so I thought I did ok on that because you can buy graded coins on ebay for about the same price as raw. If I am going to spend hundreds of dollars on a coin online I want it slabbed and graded just for peace of mind. Plus they are easier to sell that way at some point. Do you have the 1921-S and 1926-S? I just go for a nickel with a strong date. This is what you don't see that often in anything less than VF condition IMO.

My set is only missing 1913-S Types 1 and 2. I agree with you on full dates. Basically, if you want full dates you are required to get VF coins at the very least. Even then, sometimes the dates are weak and worn, and they won't fit the bill. I'm very proud of the set I've built. I can't wait to show the whole album once it is finished. My goal is to make that happen before this ear is over.

Quote: What grades are you thinking? 1913-S Type 1: at least XF45 1913-S Type 2: at least VF- it must have a full date, so I'm looking at $400-$500.

The 13-S type may as well go for a nice AU unless you can get a deal on XF but price jump isn't that great ..... On the 13-S type two you maybe able to get an XF for $400 or under .... Mine is an XF40 and I got it few months ago for under $400 ..... Here is a freshly graded one on ebay, pic not super good but date should be full at VF25 CAC but date maybe not full enough, nice almost or full horn but weak strike on front .... 151989406045

Geeez, LCG. That is one very nice 13-S T2. I would pay $400 for that all day long, and you got it for less than that! Congrats! Where did you get it? A coin show? ebay? Just curious. I've saved 4 different Type 1 buffs on my watch list, so I may be able to fill that hole sometime this week. But I'm also watching some Ikes and Morgans on ebay and Great Collections. So many coins, so little money.
