Never came across this befor so I have to ask. Can a letter show MD twice I have a Lincoln Cent that two letters show MD but it's shows the letter and two shelf type doubling

From what you are describing I believe the answer would be yes it can but I agree with CM pics would sure help if you have time

Machine Doubling can also go in opposite directions on the same coin

Most of the time it is just damaged in one direction. There can be flat field doubling and Machine Doubling on proof coins that are struck twice. There could be triple damage on business strike coins if the coin was machine doubled during the strike and damaged again during ejection. The doubling would probably be on the tops of the devices from ejection damage. But I would like to see images of your coin. (I don't have any images other than the 100+ images of MD in my educational files)
