Here is a 1876-CC Seated dime I picked up today while metal detecting with a friend. When examining the coin at home I noticed that there was a die crack on the reverse at the top of the mintmark. Checking on it further using other references, I found that it is a misplaced date variety, with the misplaced digits showing at the fold near the shield just to the right of 'Y' in LIBERTY. Another error is that DIME is doubled, showing more prominently on 'E'. Needless to say, I am very pleased with this find!

A question, though, if I may. I haven't found anything to indicate what premium there may be over a regular 1876-CC. Anyone here knows what that could be? Thanks for any information shared!

Premiums for die varieties are often difficult to pinpoint, value wise, simply because they are infrequently recognized and even less frequently sold as such.

Fortin's online book has quite a bit of information on this variety. If I am reading the pick-up points correctly yours is F-111 http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/..._111page.htm

He lists it as an R-4 with a Suggested Premium of 30-70% http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/...cvarpage.htm

I also note he has one of this variety for sale, a PCGS F-12 with a CAC sticker, priced at $85. I don't want to overstep and says yours is worth X amount since I don't know the market well. Perhaps dsfreeworld will chime in and provide a better answer.

Thanks MV! That information helps! The coin I have is indeed the F-111. The photos on that page are very helpful in identifying each error on the coin. Of necessity, I've been listing many of my finds for sale and may eventually list this latest find as well, so this kind of information is of great assistance. Thank you for taking the time to share! Much appreciated.

In this case all I did was to hold the coin under running water to dislodge the remaining loose soil. In the case of heavily caked-on soil I first soak the silver coin in clear ammonia for a minute or so before placing it under running water. I sometimes use a very soft toothbrush while holding the coin under the running water to remove soil from the crevices. I used this second method on the 1875-S Seated dime I just posted.

Most Seated Liberty dimes I have found have been on the dark side due to sulfide staining/toning, but this particular dime came out of the ground as shown, except for the residual soil it had on it of course.
