I've joined hoping to get some information about how to best market Mogans inhereted by my wife. I want to learn how to take accurate photos of the coins and need advice about the best way to present dealers with coins...foe example ...with a tube of 1878 cc's...is it advisable to take one at a time or the entire tube? Seems like a silly question...but in trading antique Winchester rifles it's been better my experience to go one piece at a time. I'm very happy to have discovered this resource and look forward to learning a lot.7 .

Yes! You will need to get some good photos posted here. There's a bit of a learning curve involved but it will be well worth your time. Those 1878CC Morgans can be worth anything from $80 to over $300 EACH. It all depends upon the grade/condition of each coin. Handle the coins by the edges and DO NOT clean them because that will destroy their value. Even just wiping them with a clean rag will leave scratches. (If you already knew that, just ignore my advice.) Since the grade of a coin matters so very much, it is best to sell each coin individually. Take a pic and post it in the Classic Coin Grade forum. Good luck with that collection!

to CCF If they are in really good condition (say MS63 or better) - and we'll be able to give you rough estimates from (good) photos - those are worth $400-500 each. You will probably want to have them graded to realize the best return, and dribble them out on ebay over several months. If they are original but worn (not cleaned), even in low grade they are worth +/- $100 each. The trick with valuing them is to look at SOLD listings on ebay not open listings (I can list my used VW for $1m, it doesn't make it WORTH that until somebody pulls the trigger and buys it)... http://www.ebay.com/sch/Morgan-1878...Sold=1&rt=nc

to CCF! Make sure that you get a number of offers before you sell. There are many fair & honest dealers but there are also some that are not. Going to a coin show to shop them is a good way to get many offers and ebay may be a viable option too if you can take decent photos and can weed out the scammers.
