Hello everyone,

I have come across a coin for sale known as a mule. Can anyone tell me what a mule coin is? Thanks!

From the Glossary on this site.

Mule Error
This is a rare Mint error where the obverse die is of one coin and the reverse die is of another coin. The most famous of the Mule errors is a Sacagawea dollar/Washington quarter Mule, where a Washington quarter obverse is paired with a Sacagawea reverse.

For the 1953 nickel the NSF obverse die was supposed to be paired with the far leaf reverse and the SF obverse with the near leaf reverse. So when you get an NSF-Near or an SF-Far combination they are mules. http://coinsandcanada.com/coins-pri...ts-1953-1964

You cherry-pick that 1954 NSF DBM? Probably the hardest one to find... (I don't count the no chrome versions)...

No, unfortunately, I paid $350 to a US dealer who knew what it was but had no idea of its value. I had no idea either, I had never seen one in such a low grade before, but I just had to have it and we settled on a price we both found agreeable.
I paid $100 for the pair of '53 mules, they languished on ebay with lousy pics for months and months, then on craigslist and kijiji, and then back on ebay. After I made my first offer I told the seller the only way he would ever get anywhere near his asking price was if he sent them off to ICCS. I was surprised to receive a message more than six months after my original offer from the seller saying mine was the best offer he got, let's do the deal. Just goes to show the decline in interest in variety collecting.

I've noticed that in recent auctions.

The '53 mule I have in my collection is the SF far leaf. It was the first I found while going through a bucket of steel nickels for someone ... found two of each of the '53s and one of the '54 in total.

Wow! Great bucket chequer.
How long ago?
Do you still have the '54 NSF?
If you sold it, how much did you get?
I still have no idea of the value of circulated '54 NSF.

This was in December. The '54 was a huge surprise ... wasn't expecting it at all. It was a dealer's bucket and I don't think they've been sold yet. If I find out what it does sell for, assuming it does as there doesn't seem to be the market right now as you mentioned, I'll post here.
