Hi Joseph, I still owe Dave Hunt a free breakfast... tell him that if he is thinking of coming out to Coin Expo, that I definitely be there!! Tell them to pack their "oddities and errors" and nickel dollars too... Roman and I used to have good discussions on the finer points of grading, especially when in the mindset of how ICCS grades coins. I have bought quite a few gem nickel dollars from him over the years, some of which are still #1 in my PCGS Registry Set. http://www.PCGS.com/SetRegistry/all...aspx?s=82059Roger (Sherwood Park Pennies)

Thank You DarrylDarryl!
SP-Ottawa we usually always bring the errors and oddities. It gives us something to talk about with the other dealers and customers. That's half the fun at the shows! Who can I say this is when I tell him there's a free breakfast for him is he makes the show? He may go for the food alone:)

Great to have another experienced dealer in the community. I've learned a lot from the ones we already have and I follow their posts very closely.
I have one question about the cross-grading: I've noticed a few very high end coins (MS64-66) that were removed from ICCS holders and cross-graded into coinmart holders. Many of them were 2 digit prefix holders. Was this because you felt the grades were no longer a reflection of the times and should be graded higher? I find it hard to imagine myself removing a coin from a more established and accepted flip only to give an identical grade in your holder. (And that last statement was in no means a knock on your grading as from what I've seen, it's quite accurate.) It's only my perception as a collector who trusts the ICCS standard and name.

I notice that there are also some PCGS cross graded coins on sale too. I am guessing Coinmart bought a collection from a collector who bought slabbed coins but popped them out?

Yes I believe that's where these came from. They were originally purchased from us and the customer cracked them out and then sold his collection back. They will need to be re-certified.

Thank you AgHoarder:)
We would never intentionally take an ICCS coin out of it's holder and put it into ours. If we felt the grade did not reflect the coin we would send the coin in for re-grading.
We do this when the ICCS holder breaks or has cracks ect. Many of the older ICCS packages are made of a harder material that breaks easily. We are always replacing these. The newer ones are much more flexible and don't have as many problems. I have about 50 coins right now that need to be re-packaged. On my site (coinmart62) I try to have all coins over $100 in value in an ICCS holder. Being strictly an online dealer, it is important to allow customers to buy with confidence. Both sites use the same main grader, Roman, but the material we sell and some of our operating policies differ slightly although both of us guarantee every thing we sell to the original purchaser. I would expect most of these coins will be in an ICCS holder in the near future.

Hello, Dave Hunt here from B.C. Coin Mart.. I was just pointed to this site and see there are some questions or concerns that I may be able to address... First off I would like to say, thank you for the kind words and support.. I am currently in a hotel room in Calgary, with my good friend Mr. Roman Tam... We just finished the Edmonton show last weekend and are staying around for the Calgary show upcoming.. I want to take a moment to clarify a couple of things regarding concerns.. #1. My wife and I are far from computer experts.. We had no idea that our pictures were not able to be zoomed.... This concerns me a great deal and I will look into it as soon as I return home... I can promise you this, It will be fixed... I will ensure that we implement this ASAP. It could be a great deal of work, but you, the buying public deserve this from us. I truly thank you for bringing this to our attention. #2. In the past, we have had a few customers ask for better quality pictures.. We have not had much success on this part of our business. The pictures are all taken by my lovely wife... She does her best to give you a true representation of the coin. We will do our best improve upon this. #3. The coins that you are seeing, currently listed on the B.C. Coin Mart site, came from a very large collection.. This particular client had bought a great deal of coins through us as well as other resources.. He was very particular about how he wanted his collection to appear.. He wanted all of his collection to show the reverse side, as he stated, they were much better looking than the repetitive picture of the "Queen"... I instructed him that it was not a great idea to be removing coins from the original holder, but he wanted it done.. We provided this service for him and put the coins in special B.C. Coin Mart holders for him... As we are all aware, life throws curve balls occasionally. His was no different.. For personal reasons, he has decided that he can no longer collect coins.. He reached out to our company for assistance in selling the entire collection which consisted of several thousand coins... We had several options to consider.. Do we send back 1-2K coins for certification with ICCS, at an enormous price to him, or do we do our best to show the ICCS Grading as well as our own opinion?. We chose the latter. None of these "cross graded" coins were changed in grade... If we felt that a coin was incorrectly graded, we put it into our holder with only our grade appearing on the package.. When we agreed with the original holder, we simply stated that on our packaging and were able to provide the original cert. to back it up.. We were not interested in "competing" with ICCS, PCGS or any other grading service. Our goal has been to provide quality coins to our valued customers at a fair price.. We do most of our grading and packaging for our own coins... We are looking forward to doing more for people that want a service out West, but we are not there yet... As for the process, all coins go through two sets of eyes before we list them... We also offer a full money back guarantee if your not happy with your purchase.. in short, we are not out to deceive anyone and we are not trying to undermine anyone else's business... We are simply a few people that have come together to do what we love and provide a quality service to the Numismatic Community. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. Thank you, Dave Hunt B.C. Coin mart

Hello Roger, Good to hear from you.. We just finished up the Edmonton & Calgary Shows.. I don't know if we will make it that far East yet.. Roman has some new work he is doing so we have no idea about any upcoming shows.. The ones we just went to were within our driving range so it worked out well.. I really miss the Eastern Shows.. In any event, I hope to see you soon at one of the events..

Just a quick follow up to the issue of Zoom on our listings.. I have contacted ebay and their response was quite shocking... It seems that we are entering a picture that is too large for the Zoom. They suggested that I leave room around the pictures when cropping and that should take care of the problem... Well I tried that. It works on some but not others.. This really is quite frustrating trying to figure out why? I will have to contact them again and see if I can get further assistance.. I find it isn't very easy to get someone experienced enough to help when it comes to ebay. I just wanted to let people know that we are working on a solution to the picture zoom issue.. I really want that feature as many of the coins listed have some qualities that will only be seen by zooming... In the meantime if anyone wants more pictures of anything, please let us know.. We will do what we can to accommodate. Dave Hunt B.C. Coin Mart

Just something on my mind that I wanted to share with the forum people in general... I understand human behavior a little and know this to be so true.. I see lots of comments about grading and it disturbs me when people knock the graders.. It is so easy to focus on a coin that is not graded well by ICCS as we have all come to expect a high quality service from them. However, we don't give enough gratitude to the great job these people do with the thousands of coins that they grade bang on... I know that we at B.C.Coin Mart have a great appreciation for the grading services out there.. Now that we are doing most of our own material, it is easy to find understanding and gratitude for the great job that they do.. We, as graders, are only human.. We will make mistakes along the way.. Patience compassion and understanding the great difficulties and challenges in this service, will go a long way for anyone... My hat goes off to Brian, Scott, Susan and anyone else that is brave enough to put your name to this crazy business of Grading.. Dave Hunt B.C. Coin Mart

Hello, The 2012 sample coins were given out to the kids at a science show in Vancouver.. They were a little something for the kids as the penny was going out of circulation..
