Need help with ID of this AR 1/24 Thaler coin. I've done a pretty extensive search and have not come up with a match.

The coin is 20mm x.6 grams. The coat of arms has a eagle on each side of the upper half, a shield of arms in the lower left and a Lion in the lower right.

The letters visible on the obverse: MON D ROIC, and on the reverse: EWI: MAR: BR: S:R

Any help will be appreciated.

Almost positive that it is a German groschen (that's an imperial orb with the fraction 1/24 on the reverse). I'll try to narrow that down to a mint and date this evening.

@Echizento, can you please provide a close-up pic of just the five shields on the obv? I'm now thinking mid to late 1600s Brandenburg or Brandenburg-Prussia. Thx.

It's very difficult to photograph, this is the best I can do. Hopefully it will help.

Indeed, spence pointed towards the right direction. 1/24 Thaler from Brandenburg. I cannot make out the date but it has to be 16..ish.
Ruler should be Georg Wilhelm (or George William, depending how you want to call him). This is what GEWI should stand in the legend for.

The coat of arms don't seem to match George Wilhelm.

No thats okay. You are wondering about the bottom parts of the coat, right? I have no idea how to send private messages in this forum and I do not know if it's allowed to post links in here so let me just suggest to keep on looking for pictures of George William coins from Brandenburg. You will see, that there has not really been one version of the coat of arms but actually several different.

Here are some coins of Georg Wilhelm:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg..._Brandenburg
House Hohenzollern:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg..._Brandenburg
Legend can be:
GEorgius WIlhelmus MARchio BRanenburgis Sacri Romani Imperii....
He was active in this states: Prussia,Julich, Cleves and Berg (Montium), Stettin, Pommern, Cassubia (Cassel?), Vandal kingdom, Silesia, Crosnia, Carnovia, Nuremberg, Ravensburg, Ravenstein.
I agree, some of these regions were unknown for me too. But perhaps one of the coat of arms can be on the shield on the coin (center shield)

Here are some '24 orbs':
http://herbison.com/someoldcoins.or.../t/t380a.htm
Propably the date is left and right of the top of the orb)

Below the shield, I can see a 3 (3 polker=3 poltorak=1 kruzierz=groschen in Poland)

Here is a similar coin (scroll down for 'early Prussia':

Petrus, thanks for the links very interesting information. I still haven't pinned down that coat of arms yet, but maybe it's from one of the list of states you provided.

Dated 1624
