I picked up a low grade 1884 CC Morgan today, came with another coin I was buying. I have one or two 1884 CC GSA's, and I am looking at a PCGS 1884 CC MS 63. None of those do I really want to break open to put into my Dansco album. Would you put a low grade like this one into your Dansco. I am pretty sure I will, but curious what others might do. I know another lower grade coin like this was posted recently, but I really don't see many that are not UNC. Edited by GR58 03/05/2016 9:15 pm

I would, you can find a deal, non GSA and upgrade later. Would be nice to have a set, that are all well circulated. Has Character.

I would definitely put that one in my album, but I'm going for a balanced set with a range of AG to maybe VF. I really like the CC Morgans that are well worn.

I wouldn't, keep it and marvel at the history and keep imagining where and who this coin has been with and what it was spent on that caused so much wear.
Myself, I hate putting "fillers" in my albums, seeing empty holes keeps me searching for the "right coin" for that hole. On some level, seeing a coin in the hole lessens my desire to fill that hole even though it is not the right coin or the coin I want filing that space. (if that makes any sense)
Keep it (which is what I would do, because I don't sell coins) or sell it on towards the coin you really want for that space in your album. I am very patient in filling my albums.

I definitely would put it in the album, GR58.
As you already know, 1884-CC in circulated state is a significant conditional rarity. For others information, only 15 pct of the total mintage of 1,136,000 was put into circulation. The rest were in the GSA sale. You don't see 1884-CC all that often in circulated condition.

I would like to say, after putting this coin, and the 1894 I bought today, into my Dansco, it is lighting a fire for me to complete this set. Where I bought the coins at today, they have a 1893 S. It is slabbed VG 10 cleaned. But to me the cleaning is hard to tell. I might have to put some funds together and see if I cam make a deal. -------- Cascade ... It is sort of crazy which coons pop up. I think I would have Liked finding a XF 1884 CC. This one was offered for $40, and I could not say no. These Dansco's really start to look nice, as it they get close to having all the holes filled. I am sure once I get mine completed ... I will want to start upgrades

Denco7 Your way of filling the albums, is probably the most logical ... But I get this obsession to fill the empty holes ...that I just can't break. Is there a 12 step program for this problem.

Is $40 good? I wasn't sure if I wanted it for that.

Yes. The vastajority ad you know we're in the vaults so circulated examples are harder to find. Especially ones with honest wear and nice surfaces. You can at least double your money on it... 351659432941391368461968262250580926You know, I'm thinking it's ag03 but if it were to grade fr02 which means lowball I wonder if p01 is rare enough with 84cc to make fr02 go for good money to registry set guys?

Very interesting I just wanted to have a coin in that hole. I wonder if lowball collecting will be long term.

$40 was a "rip", GR58. It is a $100-$150 coin. Even circulated 1882 and 1883-CC's are around $90 to $110. Good luck on filling your album.

I photograph every TPG I get and print on gloss paper the coin itself at the correct diameter. Then I cut them out and put them face to back and use those in my albums. I don't have to break the slabs, I see the coin that is holding the place, and it looks much better than a hole or a place holder that doesn't show the coin.

I have a couple of sets which lack one coin to complete the set. If I get too many sets going I will have holes in them all. I have complete set of LWH, Franklins, and Peace dollars I have a few gaps in Buffalo and one gap in LSQ's. The 1916 LSQ I want will cost me maybe $6000 and the Buffalo will cost around $1500. I have upgraded my LWH dollar set with a better 1916-S. For anything besides graded and slabbed coins I think ebay is a crummy place to buy coins, but I have done it. I want to fill these holes and then complete a set of Mercury dimes. This is my goal for 2016 and beyond. I will get a camera and post pics when I complete these sets.
