Hi - I have the attached 1837 Seated Liberty dime - small date, no stars. It also appears to have a die issue that I haven't been able to find on others online. Any help you can provide on this flaw and the coin's value overall would be much appreciated. I would put the condition at Good or VF.

That's a die crack at the E of United

There are only 5 varieties for the small date http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/...7varpage.htm

I want to give you a chance to try attributing for yourself. Click on Var# for pictures of that specific variety.

F-103b
VF30 IMO
$400 on a normal day but to the variety hound an ask of $750 would not be out of line.

Purchased exactly this variety in PCGS VF-35 (variety not on holder) $335 earlier last year. Sold to dime beast (the only denomination he collects with all varieties) for $425.

I'd say you paid in the right area for the coin graded itself but he got a steal. Your PCGS graded could consign to GFRC and Fortin would easily ask $600 to $700 IMO.

I was leaning towards F-103b

dsfreeworld for confirming my thinking and providing the original poster with a value as that is one area I'm still finding my way.

Thanks very much everyone. I really appreciate the input. My father-in-law recently passed away and this coin and others were his. I'm trying to get a sense of value for my mother-in-law. I will be posting more separately. I'd welcome your input if you cross those posts.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your Father-in-Law.

Good of you to help find the value of his collection.

Thank you for posting a really nice coin.

Condolences on your loss.

A bit of insight: varieties are a fickle market because you're attempting to appeal to a select group that you have to try and figure out how to identify. Typically, clubs such as LSSC and JRCS for example, will be filled with variety hounds and you can get help identifying and obtaining a premium for your wares. If you really want to sell, I would suggest posting all here for review and opinion and value consideration. At that point you can post enough to sell to us directly (I for one would entertain this dime) or use the bay, HA, DLRC, GFRC etc...
