I have several rolls of fully visible date V-nickels I'm thinking of selling on ebay. I've picked out the best of each year for my set as well as any with partial or full liberty. What's left are a bunch of full date common v-nickels mostly from the 1900's. I am much more interested in silver coins than these. Do you guys think the value of these will ever go up by much or should I just sell now and invest the money in something else I like (while the price of silver is reasonable)? Right now I think they are rolled with a few years in each roll (ex: roll 1 might be 1901,1902,1903). Is that the best way to leave them? Thanks.

The only low grade Liberty that has appreciated over the last year, is the '85. Go for it now, while silver is low.

Common non-silver obsolete coins in worn condition like IHC, V-nicks and Buffs have not done much for a long time, and I doubt they ever will.

I highly doubt that there will be a rise for the nickel.

Best bet is to sell them... get while the getting is good... I rarely hold onto something that isn't a key date or high grade... its not like you could really corner the market on V nickels... there were some guys a few years ago that were buying up a lot of certain coins and hoarding them to drive prices up...

Sell now. Maybe try putting a couple rolls on ebay, just to see how they do.

Looking at ebay prices.. for common full dates buffalo rolls go for $15-30 and V-Nickels go for around $20-40. Obviously shipping and fees bring those numbers down significantly. This has me tempted to get rid of my common wheat cents too. I just know I'll be kicking myself if copper ever does go up (or they change the nickel composition). By that time who knows how much silver would be though.. so my money may still be better parked somewhere else.

Wholesalers are paying 75 cents ea for good and better V nicks. That's probably more than you will get for them on ebay right now (especially after taking into consideration fees and such).

You might want to make a few lots with all different dates. That would be very attractive with less competition.
List them as> 1901 1902 1903 1904
List all the dates included. Then any search for any of those dates will alert potential buyers to your lots.

I wise old collector once told me ... common coins will always be common and never rise in value. Well circulated Liberty nickels are common and will always be common. My opinion is sell them and move into something that interests you. David

Time to sell them. I think the price will be flat on these for quite some time. Not a lot of upside, use the $ and find a few silver coins you like.

With all members views on this thread. The dates you have left without LIBERTY are much too common .

Well I think it's pretty much consensus, I should sell! Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I have enough variety to do a few rolls of 1900-1912 with all years included (not the D/S 1912). Maybe that will be my best bet since it would be a quick instant collection for someone.. then whatever is left over I can try to sell as random lots. Also I think I may have overstated that I have "a lot." I have 8 rolls. I think I'll toss in the couple no date buffalos I have in these sales too

These rolls may not have room to appreciate in value, but they are always steady sellers to new collectors looking for quick ways to put together starting sets, and popular as gifts. I used to sell these & circ Merc rolls on ebay & they would sell better than any of my other listings.
