Newbie here. Just purchased some silver, now thinking about my next purchase trying to decide whether to save up for small quantities of gold, or buy a larger quantity of copper rounds to stash. Or maybe bottles of bourbon
Thank you,
zack
Rest in Peace

Thanks T. Just thought copper might be good for making change or small purchases during trading/bartering if/when the debt dollar goes bust.

Nah. Those are very overpriced. Wire is the same price to the scrapyard.

You're thinking we are gonna be using copper for currency? If so youd be much better off buying AR-15's and tons, literally tons, of ammo.

Copper rounds are definitely a poor buy if you just want copper. In bulk you might be able to get them for $1.50 per ounce. If you get the copper one cent coins from circulation instead, 10 cents worth is about an ounce.

Even if you have to buy them at twice face value, that is 1/10 the cost of the rounds.

Bourbon over copper all day, every day. Actually I prefer Scotch but buy whatever makes you happy.

Stick with silver or other PMs for serious stacking/investment.

Copper is readily available in circulation in the form of pre-zinc cents. '82 was the transition year.

Thank you for all the responses. Will stay away from rounds and concentrate on collecting 1981 and earlier pennies. Although I will be buying silver 1 and 1/2 oz rounds. Not sure about gold. I like gold, but this is for bartering, not investing. AND, will be buying some alcohol in pint bottles for storage as well :-)

Not to repeat everyone else but avoid copper rounds. If you want copper go to the bank and get some boxes of pennies. CRH is fun and you can set aside your pre82s for face value copper :). Good luck!

stay from pre 1982 Bronze cents.
1. They have no numismatic value
2. It is illeagle to sell them for metal recovery
3. They are bronze, not pure copper
4. Today (3/15/16) my local scrap yard is paying $1.05 per pound for bronze.

Save them along with the zinc ones and clad coins until you can buy gold with them.

Oh, if you are thinking the economy will colapse soon and take the government with it then bourbon is the best investment. Good booze becomes very valueable in such times.
