Hey BadThad - what's the problem with olive oil? I have been using it for 20 years with remarkable results.

There are many problems with olive oil (and mineral oil). I've listed them many times on this forum.

Glad you have had "remarkable" results, I have not in my testing and I've seen a lot of collectors ruin their coins with it.

Thanks for all the feedback. Glad I could stimulate some discussion. I'll report back after a few days in the drink.

Before and after pics on the V nickel with green PVC slime. She cleans up quite nicely in acetone and with some que tips for the devices. Gonna check her again in daylight to see if I missed some spots.

Looks like you did a good job, it has improved significantly.
I can't see any pitting in the pictures so that's a plus. How long did you have to soak it in acetone?

I would really love to see a section dedicated to coin preservation and restoration... I am just starting to attempt the clean up of some coins I had too... I'm loving the way acetone clears up some haziness...

For Neo13x.....I soaked it three times in a small glass bowl 8hrs, 3 hrs and 1hr.....dabbed it and did the rolling que tip thing for 10 min after each soak. Even the goo in the "A"s came off. I am quite pleased.

Thanks Smalldawg, it's good to know how you proceeded with the conservation for future reference.
