So got this as part of a lot at a local auction. A bunch of foreign coins some silver haven't got to them all. Anyways, what are any opinions on grade and value? A pretty sweet find it was very pleasant to find it when I paid cheap for the lot.

I would call it VF. the edge bumps are typical. It is listed as $65 by Krause in this grade.

I would agree with VF. Here in Germany, for a VF the grid structure of the shield in the very middle has to be visible. This is the case here.

Thanks for the opinions! What would make it XF? My initial thought was high VF low XF.

Well I'd say without the edge bumps and with a little less wear that piece would be XF, but that is just my opinion. This coin is in a very good shape though, regarding the fact that these coins were circulating for quite some time. I am collecting the Prussian issues of German Empire coins and those early mark coins with the small eagle (like yours) often look heavily circulated. This one would cost here in Germany probably around 60 € and if I was you I'd keep it :)

For XF you need a good rim, more hair detail on the front, and only trivial wear on the shield. The face always shows more wear than the reverse.
