Hello Just registered in order to get comments and/or advice about how to dispose of a recently acquired collection of 50 Mercury dimes from 1916-1938. I am in Orange County, Ca. Thanks.

Could you post come pictures of the set? If the set has the 1916-D, 1921, or 1921-D there is the potential for some good value in it depending on condition.

MWMAVERICK, to CCF As you said, Quote: comments and/or advice about how to dispose of a recently acquired collection of 50 Mercury dimes from 1916-1938. Well by saying, "a recently acquired collection" is open to speculation. Did you inherit the collection or buy the collection or any other means trade, bargain? As Joe 2007 pointed out there could be some valuable coins here. Any We Buy Gold/Silver store will gladly give you cash. Just wondering what you really want to do.

I think that the more effort you put into finding out what your coins are worth, the more you'll get when you sell them. Go to Numismedia Fair Market and look each one up. Those are the prices that dealers get and they are generally higher than what you can sell them for -- but you'll get an idea if it's worth your while to put more time into this project. Were these pulled from circulation or is this a collector's set? Condition matters. Good luck and feel free to post pics -- we love to give opinions.

Thanks for the suggestions! The coins are packaged in individual protectors but they are used and in fair to good condition, although I have not taken them to a coin shop for a professional opinion.
I will try to post a few pictures but the first time I tried, the file was too big to upload.

There is a photo optimizer on this site that is fairly easy to use, after you're familiar with it.

Be careful shopping them around to coin dealers. Most are fine but some will take advantage. Best to be as informed as possible before attempting to sell.

Find a local coin club and visit and or join. Same for coin show. Also local auction house can be a good way to go. Question is also how fast you need to sell. Craigslist also is a option.

Do note that melt value today is roughly $1.12, so anyone who offers you a lot below that is clearly taking advantage. Using the resources mentioned above will let you figure out how much more than melt they might be worth.
You might want to get some bounds on your collection by looking as numismedis, finding the year and mint you have that generally has the highest value above melt, and posting a detailed picture of that one coin. That would let forum members give you a guide to the condition/
