Hello All,
Am fairly new to coin collecting. I have been looking through some of the coins I have and have found some coins with die cracks on them.

How rare is a die crack? have found them on coins from the 60's to modern clad, from pennies to quarters.

Do they hold any collector value or are they just interesting to the new collector? (like me )

As the die ages, it's prone to develop stress cracks. But even new dies can develop cracks for a myriad of reasons. Unless catastrophic failure occurs or a die is VLDS, they may keep using it for a while.

Value? Not really, but there are a few exceptions. For the most part, they are interesting to some. Consider the Liberty Bell; would it be as interesting without the crack?

Several folks here keep prime specimens: full diameter cracks, cracks that run rim-to-rim, through a mintmark (i.e. War Nickels). But keep what you like. Low investment for an interesting specimen. Why not?
