I've been studying the 1899-O Micro "O" variety, specifically VAMs 4, 5 and 6. I'm confused at the moment because I believe there is a typo in Q. David Bowers's book, A Guide Book of Morgan silver dollars, 4th Edition. In this reference (see photo below), VAM 4 and VAM 6 seem to be swapped in the pictures. In the latest Van Allen/Mallis VAM encyclopedia, it states that the VAM-6 has the 1899 date set further to the left than normal, but the Guide Book shows this "further left" date to be VAM-4 and vice versa. I would very much like to hear the community's thoughts on this. Thanks.

Quote:Best go by the VAM encyclopedia. Yes, that was my first instinct, of course. I've been looking at certified examples by ANACS, and every VAM-6 they attributed matches the VAM Encyclopedia. Quote: Different pics and different coins darth. The date positions on the 4 & 6 pics are different Yes, I realize they are. What I'm saying is that the photo representing VAM-4 is actually VAM-6, and the photo representing VAM-6 is actually VAM-4. They just have them backwards. I think it was just a typo. I didn't expect to see an error like this, and that's what threw me off.

The book does, indeed have the dates for VAMs 4 and 6 swapped. Be aware, however, that there are also VAMs 31 and 32. The near date shown is unique to VAM 6.

Earlier this week. I saw the post on VAMworld about the site getting bigger than the allotted size and they're in need of money to upsize. They're actually deleting images from listings. Figured I had procrastinated long enough.
