It would be very hard to explain how you got it, but I honestly cannot say that I would not simply slip it in my pocket. It takes some real character to come forward with a find like that.

Sort of crazy how someone hiking could find a coin in the grass
that was lost so long ago. I believe ... But amazing.

Is it a gold aureus? I can't really tell from the photos and the article didn't say . . . unless I missed it. From the photo of the woman holding it in her hand I'd say it's an aureus.

The coin may have not always been sitting on the ground, in fact it was probably under many layers of soil. because of erosion, the soil was removed, and eventually the coin was exposed.

I believe that in the middle east there are substantial penalties for removing historical artifacts, she could have been imprisoned or heavily fined if she did not call the appropriate authorities.
