Looks like it went through the clothes drier a few times. You'll see a bunch of these from CRH events.

Looks like the rim is not affected, so I'm thinking it was pressed downward flattening the devices on both sides. Is the coin normal width?

Hi Renee - something to keep in mind (it just popped into my head). I remember someone posting a coin here thinking it was a drier coin, but it was something different. I think it was struck through a cap...or something like that. I might be able to find it with a Search, but not sure what to look up at the moment. So double check if you're in doubt.

This coin was struck through a capped die. But it is worth a lot more than the OP's coin.

The die was capped with a planchet the stuck on to the hammer die. (obverse this time) It leaves a blank look or sometimes a bit of the reverse design on the obverse area.

Sometmes die caps fall off and they look very nice and collectable.

Sometimes the caps bond with other planchets.

Sometimes they fall off on there own.

Sometimes the die caps get loose on the die and rotate a bit striking some strange looking coins.

But none of these events happened to the OP's coin.

Hey Coop, I may be able to measure it. What is normal width?

Just place your coin over another cent and see if they are different. If one hangs over, then it is larger. They should both be the same weight also.

It is a beaten up and abused cent, not an error.
