Hey mc, the VDB looks suspect to me but, the photos aren't the best either. Also, was going to say, don't care for the damage on the reverse.  Edited by SHAFTA9a

both vdb and s mint mark are off. 100% fake.

Thanks guys, this was in the local classified adds and the seller said he found it when he bought a house and he doesn't know anything about coins.
But he know enough to say it was a 1009S VDB if he didn't know anything how did he know to look for the VDB that's what got me to thinking.

Total fake. Not one of the four well-established die pairings. The MM on the SVDB never tilts upward to the right.

Just got an email from the seller asking if I got the pics, can I tell him anything about it because he knows nothing about coins.
I told him I was interested but looking into it to see if it is real or not and asked him what he is asking for it.
Do you think it's worth $10 ?

Might be worth $10 to get it off the market for good. But you can be sure the seller will find a sucker.

The true experts have opined ... I concur with their wise views ... not authentic.  I'd personally pass for $10 unless you have an interest in building a collection of counterfeit USA coins. David |
