Got this one in a lot of ancient Roman coins. About 16mm and 3.88g

After a bit of searching, it appears that this particular one actually predates Islamic influence in the area, but the second picture is a distant abstraction of the fire altar motif from the Indo-Sassanian coins from a couple centuries earlier.

I immediately knew this one was silver, but I am eventually going to figure out what that black crud is, and how to get it off.

This was actually from the same group of lots that had a western satrap, a Nero tet, that Greek I posted yesterday, and a whole bunch of other goodies. Some real head scratchers to be sure.

Interesting coin...might be of use moving that counting down the decades thread along shortly... I am hoping for that to spring back a fair distance so I can start contributing ^^

@finn235, while the timeframe for minting your drachm is a bit on the large side, you could cross-post this coin over on the "counting back from 1600 by decades" thread and help us move past the 850s down to the 840s. Here is the link:
