Looks to me like it spent some time in the ground. A metal detector find maybe?

No I didn't find it that way, I actually cashed out a elder couple at work and that was in the $27.78 they paid with.

What I meant was that being in the ground for some time could cause of the greenish discoloration. It's been out in the wild for forty-five years and has likely been passed around many times in those years. During that time it might have been in lost [at a high school football game snack shack?] and when it was picked up ten years later it would look like that. I've seen many similar coins with that history and that appearance.

Looks like it is worth 50 cents to me. There was a large DDO that year. But I'm not seeing that on your coin.

Note the nice spread on the devices. This DDO is not real expensive. They are probably on ebay for a modest price. (the die made a full run. so look for the better die states on this one.
