I saw DavidUK's post on his recent Apollonia acquisition and would like to enlist the help of the members here. My wife's mother's name is Apollonia and we'd like to pick up a decent example of one of these coins. I'm not even a little bit experienced looking at ancient Greek coins, which is why I'd like some help choosing, if possible. We'd just like something nice and authentic - there's no set budget, but something reasonable (under $200, I suppose). It doesn't have to be any particular site/dealer. We'd love to hear your suggestions, if it's not too much trouble.
Thank you

I recommend going to VCoins, to the advanced search function page: https://www.vcoins.com/en/Search.aspxGenerally speaking these dealers may be trusted. Check "Ancient Coins" at the top of that page (if " US coins" and "World Coins" are checked by default, uncheck them). Type in "Apollonia" in the "all of these words:" field, make sure "All dates" is clicked on at the bottom. Search away. You'll get a lot of hits. Feel free to solicit opinions here on your finalists.

I shop on V-coins in a couple of ways... Most days I check their new stock, and sometimes something jumps out at me. Often looking through their new additions reminds me of a type I am after and I use the search option...I sort the coins cheapest first and look at the ones that are around my budget trying to identify the best looking for the most reasonable price. That one you selected looks OK or maybe this one... https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/to...Default.aspx

I like all of those and appreciate the help ... I think I may be leaning toward the second one posted by echizento at the moment.

@chequer, you may not want to mention to your mother in law (or your wife) that the two main design elements of the coin are the gorgon medusa and a boat anchor.

I went with the coin I mentioned above, although I felt any that you pointed out were fine choices. What would be considered the best reference for coins of Apollonia specifically? @spence I believe both would appreciate the elements

Still haven't received anything. Nothing in spam either. Perhaps there's a delay or a glitch with the system tonight?

Perhaps.A copy went to my email Inbox, not sure whats up, but I was unloading these two coins. Both from Apollonia one from in the back sea the other in Illyria. You can also contact me through ebay if you want.
