CoinCents: When you scratch a coin the metal is displaced around the scratch (formation of "lips" around the pit). In the case of a struck through there isn't evidence of metal displacement and, you often see partially formed devices. Notice in the pit of the struck through you can still see the design.

Thanks BlueSolo, I will have to make sure I pay more attention to those I come across with the scratches just in case and then I can always post to get a confirmation either way.

Cascade that first quarter in particular is awesome and really beautiful. I haven't seen anything like that with the boarder (wheel marks) -

CoinsKelly, I have only been in the Hobby about 5 months and mostly look at the Lincoln Cents, so I am not familiar with these nickels. They are really amazing.
