BlueSolo Pillar of the Community United States 740 Posts	Posted 03/18/2016 5:25 pm CoinCents: When you scratch a coin the metal is displaced around the scratch (formation of "lips" around the pit). In the case of a struck through there isn't evidence of metal displacement and, you often see partially formed devices. Notice in the pit of the struck through you can still see the design.
