LOL, I know the feeling. I took my wife to the ANA Museum in Colorado Springs while we were on our honeymoon. She was not a collector but she came along because someone needed to wipe the drool off my chin

Lol...good luck. Hopefully your g/f is cool with your coin obsession. Mine tolerates it and is supportive but is not interested at all. Luckily I think she would be cool with me going to a coin shop, even on "our weekend". She was even cool with me driving 60 miles one way to go a shop last weekend after doing a dog rescue run. Unfortunately the weather turned nasty here in Wisconsin, so we headed back home right away instead.

I am very lucky that I (the woman) started with coin collecting first and then had to lure my husband in! Who couldn't love it after seeing all that history and stories behind the coins! I just don't understand those women who "aren't interested". It's the best because you can combine shopping and coin shopping together--it's a win win situation! Gussyboy1

Luckily for me she IS very tolerent with my obsession and she's "kind of " into the hobby too. She wants to come to auctions with me and such things and this summer I plan to take her to those. She has a degree in history "Gussyboy" so that helps alot. We discuss all kinds of historical aspects to various coins. I would say she has an ever increasing mild interest at this point, which I'm happy with ! She has "plans" for our future if you know what I mean, (which I'm not against) and I sometimes worry that she'll freak out when she realizes just how much money I spend and want to continue to spend on coins........ New Years Resolution : eliminate debt !! and exhibit self control Problems with the "Resolution"......... I can't stop buying coins ! I want to get rid of debt or reduce it drastically before I "commit"......... ya'll can see where this is heading right ? And I've too much pride to admit how much "debt" is on my two credit cards at this point... It's "managed" and I do chip away at it, but .......soooooo hard with this hobby ! Well........ Maybe the coin shop will be closed ! I haven't bought any coins since Fall and now it's almost Spring ! That's pretty good ! (oops.... I guess I still order off of the US Mint website though !) I'm thinking seriously about getting a second job for all things considered ! For where I live, I make decent money. Self employed General Contractor with my dad.....taking over the Company as he's getting too old to put in much time anymore. But, it's not "enough" money to pay off credit cards and get some "proper" money put away. And coin collecting is a massive "hamper" to this ! I've been working here 20 years....it's all I've ever done.....but I might have to go "stock some shelves" at Walmart or something ! hmmmmmmm

How about budgeting so much per pay period or per month for the coin hobby and work on putting more toward decreasing that credit card debt . My older children got into trouble with the credit cards, too. Everything they wanted--they bought. It's way too easy with the plastic to satisfy our wants. BUT what we have to ask ourselves is "Do I really NEED this?" or do I just "WANT" it. We all have to practice saying "NO" to our inner selves at times. When our wants become an obsession and it interferes with our budget or life by causing extra worries ,it's time to recognize that and slow down. Can you sell any of your collection to help pay toward the credit card debt? If you don't know what you have in your collections and it's just piling up in a closet or box or safe somewhere and you keep buying and buying, it's no different than an individual with a clothing shop-a-holic problem.I'm not saying you have that kind of difficulty but it can get out of control at times.

My wife actually looks up stuff like this for me when we go on trips and has it in her "vacation folder" we take with us. So organized that one, you see why I married her! Eaglefoot, she has something somewhat in common with your girl in that she was an Art History major. She enjoys all History though. And yes, she is that person that when watching a period piece will point out any anachronisms, especially in the art!

I love it - I hope the shop is open for you! It reminds me of a time a couple years ago when my girlfriend and I took a trip up to Amish country in Penn. to stay at a B&B. We stumbled across a coin shop while we were there. He was selling rolls of wheaties for a great price so I bought 10. They turned out to be a great selection of dates, except for the one that was all steelies! I spent enough time in the quilt shops to easily balance it out though... Thanks for reminding me of a great trip - Have a blast.

Well, slowly_but_surely, you've blasted his thoughts of exhibiting self-control apart.

Slowly, you nailed it on the head.....We put enough time into the "hold on while I try this shirt on" and "bed bath & beyonds trips". Each time I drag my wife into a shop or show I tell her the same thing, payback time! I try my best to get her into coins, she'll open a roll or two every now and then but never really commits to it and wants to start collecting etc..
Ahh well, more coins for me then :)

I think this is going to go bad for you :) The best you can do is buy some coins and she asks for equal shopping funds or worse - cuddling! You're only one short breath away from saying, "I want to buy a coin for you to show you how much I care." Then, you're a dead man because sooner or later a 4 letter word enters the picture - gold.

LoL Ha Ha Oh... that was bad ! (didn't mean it) She DID really seem to admire my "gold coins" when I showed them to her a few months ago !! Well maybe she'd like a nice "low grade" Morgan ? ........Kk.....I better stop talking like this, because she MAY read all of this someday !! I've told her about this coin forum and how neat it is......... CRAP ! Okay.......no more "relationship talk" from me ! So......yeah........coins...... they're sure great........ ummmmm........(!)

Well.....the "romantic weekend" was great ! Driving through the winter storm on the way home.....was not so great. "My" shopping produced these.... 4 silver certificates (one 1935) all $1.00 bills....... (i don't collect those, so I don't know why I keep "acquiring" them from time to time !) $3.50 each for three and $2.50 for one ONE 1873 "S" mint Seated Liberty quarter $29.00 ONE 1897 "O" mint Morgan $19.00 ONE 1898 "P" mint Morgan $22.00 ( no mint mark is Philly) ONE 1889 "O" mint Morgan $19.00 ONE 1881 GERMAN "MARK" .900 Silver (Deutsches Reich 1 mark) $20.00 From Valentines Day with the Alaskan King Crab, shrimp, scallops, flowers, balloons, etc. to the cost of two nights in the Bed & Breakfast, the $86.00 meal at a fancy restearant, other meals, snacks, gas (two and a half hour drive to the B&B....... it's BEEN A VERY EXPENSIVE FOUR DAYS FOR ME ! Whew ! But it was fun and well worth it for sure ! AND I DIDN'T GO HOG WILD ON COINS EITHER ! (although if I had more money......well.....) Anybody know anything about that German coin ? It was certainly a "blind" purchase on my part....I know nothing of foreign coins or "paper" money for that matter either.
