I'm going to try another branch of the same bank, but if this doesn't work, what are some suggestions for finding a dump bank that will let me dump $5k to $6k once each week?
I know some of you do well with bringing cookies, pizza, etc.. I can't seem to get enough weeks into the relationship to even try that.
I'm considering setting up an account at a new bank with my weekly dump being part of our banking relationship agreement. What do you think would be a reasonable balance to maintain in order to get them to do this for me? I know my bank that orders for me (the bank with our large balances) would take my dumps, but I obviously don't want to buy and dump with Brinks. I need Loomis (or some other company) for my dumps.
I'm in Murfreesboro, TN and would be willing to travel as far as Nashville for my dumps if anybody knows of a "nice" bank in the area.

I would break it up into 2 visits and dump $3K at a time or better yet dump $3K and one branch and $3K at another branch.
That is what I had to do with Chase until they took the coin counters out now I have to only dump $1200 at a time at a few other banks as they actually have a "fee" on the record for dumping coin but if you don't push it too far they don't enforce it (except for 2 BMO branches I have been banned at)

That is a little excessive I think. I get maybe 2 boxes a week of halves and when I take those I never feel right.

You will have to add more dump banks to your route. As far as an account balance, it means nothing to a bank anymore for a civilian to cancel a large account.

Here is an idea - The Wellsfargo in Steamboat CO has their coin counter in the lobby. It is free for customers. it prints out a recipient and you take it to the window. I use it and the tellers don't have to deal with the counting part - and they are happy to sell me boxes. It is a lot less work for them, and I like it because I can see there are no rejects or anything like that.
Maybe yo can find a bank in your area setup like that.
Good Luck.

In all my research, I can't find a single bank in the middle TN area that has a free coin counter. Does anybody know how the dump cost to the bank is calculated? Is it based on weight, dollar amount, or is it a flat pickup fee? If the cost is reasonable, I'd be willing to pay it. And if it's a flat cost per pickup, I'd even be willing to only make one big dump per month.
My good bank has us on auto-order of $2k in small dollars and $3k in halves each week. I really don't want to mess up that great relationship, but I need a way to get these things redeposited. I guess for this week, I'll try a different Bank of America branch since my normal branch just cut me off.

I agree with the others that that amt. is too much for a single bank (after all, that's what the banks are telling you). I've heard good things about TD Bank.

I've been buying $2000. worth of halves a week from a Brinks bank for over a year and dumping about $3000. at the same bank for the last several months. I may look through some of the same coins occasionally, but seldom have a week that I don't at least get a few pieces of silver, impaired proofs, errors or NIFC from the 4 boxes I get from them. I too had trouble finding a dump bank that would work with me for more than a couple months including other branches of this bank, but I knew the head teller at this bank from when she used to work at another bank I banked with. When I asked her about ordering and taking back my unwanted coins she said it would be no problem. I didn't even have an account with this bank when they started ordering coins for me. Over the past year I've got to know about every teller and many of the other people in the bank and by taking them small gifts occasionally they're all very helpful whether I go to buy coins, dump coins, make a deposit or make a withdrawal. Often when I'm dumping coins I'll take the coins in drop them off at their coin counter and tell to count them at their convenience and I'll stop back by in an hour or two to pick up the money. If I'm not busy and they can run the coins through the counter then, I'll carry the boxes to the counter and even open and dump the boxes in the counter for them so the only lifting they have to do is the full bags. If you can find a bank that will work with you do everything you can to make the job easier on them. When I pick up coins they let me into the vault area, they don't even have to carry the boxes from the vault to the teller windows, I pick them up at the vault and carry them directly to my car. My agreement with the other bank I get 2 boxes from a week was that they'd get the coins for me if I'd take the ones I didn't want to another bank to get rid of them. As for the amount I have deposited with my dump bank at the current time it's just a few thousand dollars in a checking account.

Hey, I'm in Franklin and travel to Murfreesboro on occassion for work. Ascend Credit Union has a coin counter. You need any account though. Their bags have to be replaced after 1000 dollars (I'm not sure if this is standard). I've had to decrease my boxes from 2k/week to 1k/week because they were getting kind of irritated. I think there are 3 in Murfreesboro (only 1 in Franklin) so you could mix it up.

After I posted yesterday - Wellsfargo informed me that they will change $8 a box to buy coins - sounds kind of high to me...

RCook - Thanks for the detailed post. I've seen how much silver you find, which makes me even more shocked to see that you order and dump at the same bank! I thought I'd certainly be getting back my own coins if I did it that way...which is why I have made a huge effort to only dump with Bank of America (since they use Loomis instead of Brinks). I also like dumping with them because it's quick and easy...I hand them the box and they credit my account...no effort at all is made to count them, because they know they will all be there. But it's time to find new options....
Bnmakr1 - I am soooooo glad you made this post. I've checked out all of the local banks for coin counters, but not the credit unions. I will be looking into Ascend today. They aren't as convenient as my other banks, but there are 4 branches within 6 miles of my house. Even if I only dump $750 at a time (so I don't run out of bag space), I should be able to get it all done in just a few trips each week. Hopefully the branches near me have counters...if they do, I'll be opening up an account tomorrow! It will certainly take longer to make each deposit at the bank, but since I won't be spending time rolling at home, I'll be saving time overall.
123Paul - Heck yes, that's too much! Wow! Every skunk box will be a net loss, unless you end up with a bunch of mint NIFC and proof coins.

Bnmakr1 - Thanks again. I just spoke to a rep and all 4 branches near me have counters. She said there is a 10% fee for vending machine owners, so I'll probably stick to $750 or $1k per dump in order to not trigger any red flags. I'll be opening an account tomorrow. I might give them a nice balance to get on their good side before I start dumping.

No problem! Glad to help a fellow CCF member. Let me know if you see any half dollar with a giant, black Sharpie star! I'd like to see where they are going.

I honestly don't recall seeing any marked with a giant star and I got through quite lot here in Murfreesboro. I looked into the Ascend requirements and they make it easy for us to be eligible...my husband can pay a $10 "50-plus Club" fee and we'll qualify lol.
Do they use Brinks? Hoping you say NO, but I'm going to do this anyway even if they do.

The one by my house uses Loomis. Dunno what they use over there but I'd assume Loomis too.
