I have been evaluating this Federal Reserve Note...it seems to be in Very Fine or Extra Fine Condition. Should I get it graded or ?

It was in a collection of coins and some paper money that my late Father passed to me. My Mom died in 2010 and she passed it on to me prior to her death, telling me that Dad wanted me to have it after she was gone.

by all means have it graded. Looks to be an Fr.883A* which is not an inexpensive note.

Get it graded! I did a quick ebay search and even though I couldn't find a Kansas example, but everything else was well over $300-700 and in far lesser condition than yours

A quick search through Heritage archives I found a sale on Sept 5, 2014: Fr. 883a* PCGS Very Fine 30 PPQ sold for $2,350 which includes the Buyer Premium (maybe 15% back then). So by all means have it graded and value it at $2000.

That's weird, seems a little high.. I'd value it around $800 with a little help from the Comprehensive Catalog. Oh and in terms of rare...YES, 13 recorded.

Thanks to all for your comments. I will get it graded and follow up after that is done. I was offered over $1,100 on it by a local dealer who I showed the bill to on Saturday. After it is graded I can decide if I want to part with it.

I will update later...SMILE

again thanks to all....this forum is a "hoot" I can tell I will have a good time, but in time, it probably will cost me money?! SMILE

I thought you all might like to see the back side of the $5 KC Star note....it really is a pretty neat bill and I love all the large bills anyway.

That note might pull a high level VF PPQ. Excellent note!

I agree with @techwriter, and the note is a great candidate for grading.
Very nice Fr.883A*, and it appears to be in original, unmolested condition.

The story of the note being passed down from your father is an added bonus.
