VF-25, obverse kind of porous, possibly details.

1808 VF details, almost looks like it was in the ground at one time? environmental damage nonetheless. still a nice example.

Nice looking coin! I'm in the VF details camp.
My first large cent was also an 1808. It was an AG though.

Enough to merit a full VF20 in my opinion. Net it down a tad on porosity, if you'd prefer, and the minor obverse scratch.
Very solid strike, well centered, on a decent planchet.
Good luck buying this coin for less than $400-500 in the modern market.

RK55. planchets from this period were stored and transported in barrels from England. Most have porous surfaces similar to this. Due to the composition of the metals if this coin was buried for any period of time all or most of the details would be gone. Because of this it may even even grade straight without a details designation.

Nice coin! Great variety that I believe does demand a small premium but not more than 10-20% IMO. TPG grade: VF details. Copper Enthusiast Grade: VF and I like it!
