When you leave a seller a negative feedback for a just reason and you get a negative feedback in return when you didn't deserve it, is there anything you can do? If a seller deserves negative feedback, why should they automatically give you one as well?

Did you give the seller a chance to remedy the situation? Or was there a problem with the item you bought, but the auction clearly states "all sales final" and the seller stood his ground? We need more background please! :)

This does have to do with a sellerr I am dealing with, but this is about the other people who has been dealing with them. Each and every person that left this guy a neggy got one in return. I am contemplating leaving one but I don't want one in return.

nds76, All mine were retaliatory, but I felt compelled to warn others of the substandard seller. In each case I contacted the seller first for remedy and was given a "tough s***" response. The choice is yours and it really depends on your feedback situation whether you take one for the team or just forget it. P.S. - This won't be an issue once ebay enacts the new rules for sellers (no neg feedback from buyer to seller). Sellers hate it but it works for buyers in these type situations.

This goes into effect on Feb 20th I believe, so I think at that point you can leave your negative without retaliation. Who is the ebay seller if you dont mind me asking!

Not until May... and if you want my opinion, it won't happen. Remember I said it here.

Retaliatory feedback really irks me, because the buyer's only obligation to the seller is timely payment. If they've done that, the seller hasn't a leg to stand on--or so it seems! I've run across a few borderline auctions, and I always contact the seller first. If it turns out they're an @ss, I suspect they'll retaliate so I simply don't leave them feedback. I'm sorry to say--having no complaints on my feedback is more important than leaving it for others. It's one of the weaknesses of ebay.

You've just opened Pandora's box ... now we will feel Bobby's wrath. This path has been crossed numerous times in the past with predictable results.

If it says that, it's wrong. Feedback changes aren't until May.

I know its the right thing to do leaving negative feedback when deserved as to warn other eBayer's about a particular seller. But on the other hand, I really want to preserve my 100% rating as well. It's really a tough call.

I am a good seller and there are very few instances over the years where I feel I actually deserved negative feedback. When people leave me negative feedback and I feel I don't deserve it, I will always return it and have a good reason for doing so.
Here are some reasons buyers deserve negative feedback, even if they paid in a timely manner:
Buyer claims he never received item, even though delivery confirmation says he did.
Buyer requests a refund on an item, even though my terms explicitly state that there are no returns, then he files a claim with Paypal making up some bogus "not as described" claim, simply so that he can get the refund.
Buyer harasses me with tons of unnecessary emails, is rude, and wastes my time.
Buyer chooses to not purchase insurance, then blames me when package is lost in transit and leaves me negative feedback.
Buyer requests a refund, which I quickly process, then he leaves me negative anyway.
Buyer returns a product without even asking first and expects a refund.
Buyer sends me a personal check, even though my listing states that I only accept Paypal, cashier's checks, or money orders.
Buyer indicates he is unhappy with an item (generally because he failed to read the listing), so I offer a refund (even though the listing states I don't accept returns), then the customer claims he'd rather keep the item, but leaves me negative feedback anyway.
Buyers is a scammer.

All good points except for... quote: Buyer chooses to not purchase insurance, then blames me when package is lost in transit and leaves me negative feedback.
Insurance protects you, not the buyer. You are required to get the item to the buyer by law, disclaimers in the listing do not override the FTC mail order law.

Yeah...I suspect there's a few out there, but I'll wager the majority of us just want to receive the item as advertised--with as few hassles as possible. As I've said before, I feel that 1/2 the coins on ebay are not quite as advertised: overgraded, harshly cleaned, hidden damage, etc. It's quite a chore to filter through all the junk, and then when a bad coin slips through, deal with a defensive/evasive seller. Remember--the seller usually has the upside because they know exactly what they're selling, leaving the buyer to trust their word and "grade yourself" from some pitifully small/dark photo. Few sellers actually put themselves in the position of the collector, but seem shocked when buyers later point out discrepancies in the deal.
