Take a look at what I added to my collection today... Any thoughts on its value? ...that is if you know what it really is...

1944, lack of mintmark, hole in the R? Henning I'd say. Nice find.

Unsure of value, but a nice example. Is that a die gouge or die crack on the reverse going from US to Monticello?

It's in pretty nice shape too. I recently sold one similar for about $80. Worth a minimum of $50.

I am not surprised the dealer didn't know what it was. For years I would go around the Baltimore Coin Show looking for them and I would spend most of my time educating dealers about what they are. This one is the one with the die crack on the reverse. Very nice. Could I ask what you paid for it?

So much for ridding the hobby of counterfeits. Is it not illegal to buy and sell counterfeit USCoins?

Nice pickup.

I like it when a dealer doesn't know what they have,
and the collector does ... just how I got mine.

Yes it is a nice example of a Henning. I told the dealer what it was before I bought it, and got it for$30

I once hit the jackpot at a local show , I bought 8 coins for 0.50 because the dealer didn't know what they were. lets just say they are worth at least $7 each.

This is the first I have heard about these nickels. My question is why is this not on the lists of coins to watch for? I've seen several lists and even in the Red Book and no information on the Hennings nickel. What else am I looking over due to ignorance?
