Very interesting coin. Might be worth contacting Lech Stepniewski for addition into his "NOT IN RIC" website.

Alexandria wasn't operating that many officina during this period. The style is also wrong for Alexandria. The coin in from Antioch - SMANZ. Regards, Martin

@Martin, I was thinking the same thing, maybe a clogged die for the "N".
However, unless I am imagining it, I see dot SMANZ dot? Maybe an unlisted variation?

I think the coin is from Antiochia for next reasons . I read : dot SMAI Z dot : SM =Sacra Moneta , Z = greek number 7 ,so it is a Greek mint . Normally ,the mint is written without space when there are only letters , so there was a problem with the die .The only mint with so much officinae in the East is Antiochia , so I has to be N ,so we can read : . sacra moneta antiochiae 7th officina . The size and the weight match with the coin of RICVIII,39 .It has to be an unlisted variation .albert

RIC VIII 38 for Antioch, with a different reverse but in the same time series as the "Q" reverse type, has a footnote referring to a double dot mint mark .SMANI. found in the Fayum hoard. A double dot series mainly for Gloria Exercitus soldiers and standard reverses is assigned numbers 51-55 and another for 60-63, one of which is illustrated.
It seems likely to me that this coin fits in with those anomalous double dot versions, riding in on the coattails of the footnote for number 38.
