This is outside of my realm, I literally just found that I had some Kennedy halves and decided to check them out...
Thoughts of doubling and value?

The larger coins have more of a problem during striking with machine damage. It is sometimes harder to find them without the MD.

So what to look for on MD. Note the areas affected, actually reduce the size of the device?
Note that the full size of the device is present, but reduced by die movement. Kind of like this:

MD is flat and shelf like that look like stairs. Devices on a coin are contoured. So when you place a single light source you will see a light area on a device and a dark area opposite the device. On MD you just see the same color in those areas as it is flat. Note on the affected areas what I'm talking about.
Your last image of STATES:
Note the 'T's. You see the light to dark because of the contour of the device, but note on the MD areas. It is all the same color in that area. Flat=MD.

I wanted to let you know why we said that answer, rather than just saying yes or no. Knowledge is knowing what and why answer. Yes or no usually never teaches, it just give an answer.

It is possible to find hub doubling and MDD (Machine Damage Doubling) on the same half dollar...note this 67 BS DDO-001, but this is not the case with yours.

Is MD classified as a basic PSD or there any additional value based on the style?
I was going to hold on to the Kennedys anyway.

It is still a doubled die with machine damage.
