that is the norm I think, most coin dealers don't have time to mess with varieties unless it is a super duper rare variety that has been brought to their attention either when they were buying or by one of their customers. There is only a few that will actually take the time to look at their Morgan and Peace dollars to check for VAM's because they are to busy trying to flip their inventory
