I found a 1983 p half dollar with rotated dies of approz 160 degrees. the coin is in great shape and looks authentic. they show no 1983 half dollars found yet and I don't know if I should have the coin graded or what. any rotated die info out there? thank you.
Rest in Peace

If you can show us photos, flipping the coin bottom to top from the front (obverse) to the back (reverse) would allow us to offer a more concrete opinion.

It could be a Magicians coin.

Does it sound like a regular half when you drop it on a stone counter top or does it make a dull thud?

You could weigh it but I have found a couple of magicians coins that were the correct weight depending on the coin inside.

I found quite a few of these in half boxes. The Magician's coin will not ring.

the weight is comparable to another with some wear. the ring is deeper than others though. what is a Magicians coin and why would someone take the time to alter a coin only to put it back in circulation?

Probably a Magicians coin. Look near the edge of the reverse under magnification and you'll likely be able to see where the coin was cut. I too search halves and have found a few of these. I thought I had a rotated die when I found my first one, but others informed me of what it likely was, they were right.

you are right the edge gives it away as well as the dull ring and when you tap it with fingernail in the center it doesn't sound the same. now I know. still don't know why someone would put that in circulation after altering it but I guess it takes all kinds.thank you all for the help. think I'm gonna like this site! VERY IMFORMATIONAL!
