A recently purchased coin, do not have it in hand yet.

The extra lines look a lot like certain sections of the hair but I cannot make a positive match. My knowledge of errors is very limited so I was hoping some of you could help me identify what caused these marks.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks Paulz. Initially I was thinking that as well but shouldn't a die clash show features of the opposite side? Thanks

It does. I believe you see the leaves/wreath around the queen's head. All the way from her chin, up on top of her head and down the other side. These coins were struck in coinage (upside down), so you get the wreath upside down. If you take a look at the two leaves on the left and bottom of the 1 in 1870, you'll see the queen's hair

Very unusual maybe a strike from another die first before the main strike.
Not embossed

yeah the tripling throws me off a little. I guess multiple clashes? This is what I meant in terms of clash:

Thanks Paulz! That looks pretty good. Especially in front of the nose/mouth.

so with regards to the tripling: would this indicate that the coin was struck 3 times? And if that's the case than is it possible that this coin is a low grade SP strike?

No it wasn't that this coin was struck three times. It's that the dies might have clashed 3 times in total before this coin got struck.
