I recently purchased some nickel slabs for nickels.

I plan on putting my 1944 Henning nickel into one of them.

Looking for suggestions on what to put on the label

I am not sure how much I can fit on label, maybe something like this.

1944 No P Jefferson nickel
Counterfeit 1954
by
Francis LeRoy Henning
Loped "R" 5.4 grams

Instead of "Counterfeit 1944" I'd put "Contemporary Counterfeit 1944".

I can see adding "Contemporary"

Maybe instead of "No P" put " no mint mark"

I don't think the Hennings ONLY date to 1954, so you might add circa...

Generally you lead with the most important... So I'd put

Jefferson nickel
1944 No P (Henning, F. L.)
Contemporary Counterfeit circa 1954
Looped "R" 5.4 grams

Just curious, what was the point of making a fake nickel (given the low value)? Even if you convinced someone it was silver, back in the 50s it wasn't worth a lot. Not knocking your coin GR58 as I think it's very cool and will look great in a slab. Just wondering why they made these in the first place.

If you do web search for Henning nickels there will be
several links on this.

Henning made die's, used a press, and made hundreds of thousands
of nickels. I am not sure what his cost per nickel was,
but sure he was making them for less than face value.
I have read, he thought no one would check out nickels.

He had been caught making Five dollar bills before trying
nickels.

His mistake was making a war year nickel, with out a mint
mark. Collectors began to see them, and the search for the
source lead to Henning.

Mine is not a high grade example, I just wanted one. I think
it is a nice addition to my Jefferson collection.

One of the articles I read seemed to indicate that it actually costs Henning a little more than $0.05 to make a nickel. Although his production was large by counterfeiting standards, he hadn't really gotten to the point where economies of scale kicked in.
