The coin has TY in Liberty doubled but I can't see any other place that is. Did I find something or did it take a hit? I can post more pictures of other area if needed.

What is a "bar" nickel?
And can you explain to me the difference between a true dd and a md and how to distinguish between the two.

Take a look at Coops recent post. Very good examples of DD's. There are other post on here where he has gone into detail of the differences between the two. Might have to dig a little to find them.

The difference between machine damage and hub doubling is this: On a doubled die the doubling is on the die Machine damaged coins are from a normal die, that bounces or moves during the strike. On a doubled die the devices are on the strongest doubled die show a spread between the hubbing. On a MD example the devices are just damaged and reduced from the original size of the devices. The color is the same because they are flat. So if the area show the same color then they are MD. If they show a color change denoting a contour, then it is hub doubling if they show a spread. Normal devices will show a light to dark change because the devices are contoured.

A Bar Nickel can affect any letter in Liberty or the date, but it has to be a chip and not MD.

But most of the time it varies in how it is damaged during the strike.
