I just picked this one up of ebay... I am by no means an expert on these type and not really sure how to grade this coin but the details seem OK and the coin looks like a good example apart from the rim bump. Not sure on value either, there weren't many to choose from on this side of the pond so I just plumped for it without really worrying about cost (worked out about $30 I think...since it was less than £20 including postage) I understand there are varieties of these but don't really know how to differenciate the large letters from the small letters type.

I'm no expert either but as the first responder it gives me an opportunity to independently attempt to grade. F12, if the rim bump doesn't bother you. I don't see it on the reverse. It has nice eye appeal, but there may be evidence of light cleaning. The vertigris under the wreath is uneven. Large letters: the A and M in AMERICA nearly touch.

:) Thanks for the replies... looks like I didn't get stitched up then, it was not an exceptional deal but was a fair one and I am OK with that.

VF-20, possibly cleaned. In the U.S. probably worth about $25 or thereabouts, so I think you did fine.

:) Thanks all :)
Nice to see you perusing the coins Mr Frog... normally see you hanging about the paper money (I am mainly lurking there as no new additions recently.)

Much nicer than my first Flying Eagle cent that's for sure. That is a fine type coin. Even better than fine, probably VF20. Nice pickup. Everyone should have at least one Flying Eagle cent.

That is a really nice coin and considering your not here in the USA, finding one at all is great. Now lets see you find a 1856 for that price.

I like it.
I figure it saw several years of circulation (back then a cent was important in commerce) and then maybe left on the last ship leaving those crazy ex-colonists at the start of the war.
