I inherited a 2001 American Buffalo Proof coin. It has a mint mark F. Where is that? Does that make it more or less valuable?

I believe that it's a billion of a Buffalo nickel and is made of silver. The letter F is part of the designers initials. Because it is a bullion of a private mint, it doesn't have a mint mark.

Buffalo nickels were minted from 1913-1938 and the designer was James Earle Fraser.

My avatar can't resist responding. You're got a very popular commemorative buffalo dollar.

It's worth a good deal more than many of the pre-1938 issues.

The "F" is for the designer Fraser

I would have to see the reverse of your coin to say what it is.

There are a lot of silver rounds 1oz .999 fine silver, made with this
same design.

If it is the 2001 commemorative proof silver dollar, then it will have very
good value.

Looks like a proof 2001 Buffalo but, as was mentioned there are a lot of silver rounds out there that look similar.

It should have a "P" mintmark under "one dollar" on the reverse (and obviously not say "one ounce fine silver")

The PF dollar goes for around $130

Here is my example of the UNC 2001 commemorative, it has the
"D" mint mark where the proof would have a "P"

Which one, if either, would have more value and why?

Hey cashhound, we're the ones with the popcorn. What is it, a dollar or a round?
