I do not collect Lincoln pennies, but do put away all 2009s I can find as this is the only year for these designs.

My question is the RedBook says that some 2009s have a satin finish. Can someone post a pic of one with this finish and one without so I can tell the difference?

Thanks in advance...Mont

Satin finish coins come from mint sets.

The easiest way to tell the difference between 2009 satin an regular
business strike coins is to weigh them.

2009 Satin finish Lincoln cents will weigh 3.1g
2009 Business strikes will weigh 2.5g

The weight difference only works for 2009 Lincoln's. For the commemorative
Lincoln's, the mint used the original 95% copper planchets for
the mint and proof set coins.

The 2009 "Satin Finish" lincolns are 95% copper and ONLY came in the Uncirculated Mint sets that the US Mint puts out each year. P&D of each design means 8 satin finish Lincolns for that year.

These coins were not released into the wild as the regular Lincolns for that year were.
If you find a Satin Finish in your pocket change, or think you have one, weighing it might be the best way for ya.

Good answers, gents.

Remind me - do albums differentiate or have specific holes for these satin issues?

The Dansco albums, 7100/8100 do not. They just have holes
for P/D/S.

Of course you can choose which ones to fill the holes with.
Mine are filled with satin coins,
