Thinking of spending ebay bucks on a type of coin I don't have yet. Since I am not familiar with this coin my question is would you choose an 1875S mint or the CC mint coin? The CC mint coins are pricier but are they worth the premium?

I contemplated the same thought when piecing together my 7070, many years ago. I opted for a sharp, AU S-mint coin. Condition was ultimately more important to me than focusing on any given date or mintmark.

If you are a type collector and you are looking for the most attractive coin for your money, the 1875-S is the way to go. The 1875-CC is a the second most common coin in the set, but it brings a premium because it is from the Carson City Mint which adds interest for many collectors. Believe it or not the 1875 and 1876 Philadelphia coins are scarcer.

Many 1875-CC Twenty Cent Pieces are poorly struck on the upper part of the eagle's left wing and the corresponding area on the shield in the area of "LIBERTY." If you are looking for a lower grade piece in Good or VG, this doesn't matter, but if you are looking for a nice coin in EF or better, you will get more detail on the average 1875-S than you will on the average 1875-CC.

The choice is yours. If the CC Mint really turns you on, go for it. It will probably take you longer to find the coin that suits, but what makes you happy is what counts. If you want a coin with more design detail for the money, the 1875-S is the way to go.

I agree with billjones.
In my type set I have a nice original 1875S that's VF/XF.

ebay Bucks will show up automatically as a credit option on your next ebay purchase invoice, but you must be careful to look for the box to tick BEFORE committing to pay. Wait for a sec after ticking the box, and it will show as a credit. The balance of your Bucks (if any) will be saved for future purchases, but remember you must use ebay Bucks within 30 days.

What grade are you looking for? I found this to be one of the harder ones to find for my 7070. I really wanted one with a full Liberty on the shield. I ended up with a 1875-S in XF40 that I cracked out of a PCGS slab after looking for a nice raw one for a long time without success.

I really like the extra appeal that goes with Carson city mint mark coins. But it depends on your budget and what condition your looking for

Many of the double dimes have been cleaned. I would recommend NGC or PCGS, take photos, and insert the photos into your 7070. If it comes time to sell, you'll be glad you left the slab whole.
