Is there a definitive guide somewhere to determine the difference between the different 1982 cents? I have found a few threads here that mention it, but it's all in bits and pieces. Unless I'm reading things incorrectly (VERY possible!), it seems there were three varieties (Copper, Bronze, and Zinc)?

Here is a link that should have everything you are looking for in one place:
http://www.lincolncentresource.com/...es/1982.html

Composition was changed mid year, from copper alloy to zinc core with copper plating

The copper coins are technically "brass" if they have a bit of zinc or "bronze" if they have a bit of tin. They are 95% copper, perhaps are academic issue.

It is my understanding that the original Lincoln cents contained both zinc and tin. They are commonly called bronze, and academic discussions are why we are here!

OK, thanks, I'll check them out. The reason I thought there were three types was inside the PCGS Price Guide app on my phone:

1982
1982 Bronze
1982 Zinc

(Same with a D). I only assumed the 1982 with no material listed was "copper".

More specifically, the app lists the following:

Type 3, Memorial Reverse (Copper): (Date ranges from 1959 - 1982)
1982
1982 Bronze Large
1982 Bronze Small

Type 4, Memorial Reverse (Zinc): (Date ranges from 1982 - 2008)
1982 Zinc Large
1982 Zinc Small

I'm very confused!!

1982 Large Date Bronze (95% copper)
1982 Small Date Bronze (95% copper)

1982-D Large Date Bronze (95% copper)

OK, thank you all. I'll move forward with the list of 8/7 listed above. I guess it's confusing to me sometimes when the word "Copper" is used, specifically by PCGS. And for the 1982-S, is there even a need to say "Bronze" since it's the only possibility? It's like if I were to say "1921 Peace Silver", it implies there is another option.

1982 Large Date Bronze (95% copper)
1982 Small Date Bronze (95% copper)
1982 Large Date Zinc
1982 Small Date Zinc
1982-D Large Date Bronze (95% copper)
1982-D Large Date Zinc
1982-D Small Date Zinc
1982-S Proof Bronze (95% copper)

All bronze is copper but not all copper is bronze.

You are right, there is no need to list it when that is the only option. However, in the context of this list I felt is would be nice to include it. It is good to know what it is, and by extension, what it is not.
